I have heard some people complaining that it is sacrilegious and blasphemous but it's really just making fun of the whole cult of Obama. Check it out. You won't be disappointed.

Yesterday, my local paper had a column in it by Kathryn Lopez titled, Huckabee tearing Republicans apart. You can read it here. It had so many distortions and misconceptions in it, especially that Mitt Romney is a "full-spectrum conservative." I just could not let this go unchallenged, so I wrote in to the paper. Below is what I wrote:

On Friday, you printed an article by Kathryn Lopez that unfairly bashed Mike Huckabee. I would like to address some of the issues that Ms. Lopez brought up concerning Mitt Romney and Mike Huckabee.

In her piece, she quotes what the National Review has said about Romney. She says, “Unlike some candidates in the race, Romney is a full-spectrum conservative: a supporter of free-market economics and limited government, moral causes such as the right to life and the preservation of marriage, and foreign policy based on the national interest.”

I just cannot let lies and misrepresentations like that go unchallenged. I do not know where she got the idea that Romney is a “full-spectrum conservative.” The truth is that when Mitt Romney ran for the Senate in 1994, he ran to the left of his opponent Ted Kennedy. He was a staunch supporter of abortion rights, gay rights, and affirmative action. When it comes to the conservative icon, Ronald Reagan, Mitt Romney desperately tried to distance himself from Reagan and his policies when he was debating Kennedy.

The truth is that Mitt Romney only changed his views on these positions relatively recently. A reasonable person will ask themselves why did he change his mind on these issues? Well, could it be because he knew he would be running for President and that it would be politically expedient for him to do so? The Republican establishment thinks that they can feed us this garbage and expects us to actually believe it. Romney’s flip-flop on these issues makes John Kerry’s flip-flops look small in comparison (and his very well might have cost him the ’04 election). This obvious pandering to voters shows a lack of principles, character, and convictions in Mitt Romney.

Ms. Lopez wants to present Huckabee as “big-government tax-hiker” and as someone who “has an utter lack of knowledge on foreign-policy issues.” These are more distortions that must be addressed. What is it that makes Romney so much more qualified to speak about foreign-policy issues? Is it because he helped plan the 2002 Winter Olympics in Salt Lake City? That hardly counts as foreign policy experience. The truth is both Romney and Huckabee served as Governors. Mike Huckabee was the governor of Arkansas for over ten years and has more executive experience than any other Republican candidate running for President.

When it comes to the tax issue, Mike Huckabee wants to get rid of the income tax and abolish the IRS. I think it obvious that our tax system is broken and is in dire need of change. Huckabee will work to make that happen by supporting the Fair Tax, which is based on consumption. Romney has not supported the Fair Tax, but if we wait fifteen minutes I am sure that he might change his mind like he has on so many other important issues.

The Republican establishment is in for a wake-up call. The base of the Republican Party and the grassroots conservatives will not be fooled. If the choice is between Mitt Romney, a life-long social liberal who recently converted (the reasons and timing for his conversion are suspect) or Mike Huckabee, a consistent conservative, I will pick Huckabee every time. Aren’t we tired of politicians who say one thing to get elected but do another thing once they are in office? I know that I am and because of that I cannot risk voting for Mitt Romney. Mike Huckabee, the consistent conservative, will be getting my vote.

Pat Robertson endorses Rudy Giuliani

He is the latest GOP presidential candidate to receive an endorsement from a high-profile social conservative. Just recently Sam Brownback has endorsed John McCain and Paul Weyrich, a co-founder of the Moral Majority, endorsed Mitt Romney. I just do not understand why these strong social conservatives and leaders of the "religious right" are not endorsing Mike Huckabee. Is it because they do not think that he has a chance to win? The truth is that Mike Huckabee continues to climb in the polls and is doing very well in Iowa. Why don't these men endorse the candidate who has proven himself as a strong social conservative? I don't get it. Don't get me wrong, if Rudy Giuliani does indeed get the GOP nomination then I will vote for him. However, the primaries are the time for us to make our voices heard and that is why I will be voting for Mike Huckabee in the primaries.

Update: Mike Huckabee has released a statement regarding Pat Robertson's endorsement of Rudy Giuliani. Here's what he said, "I congratulate Rudy on getting that endorsement. It’s somewhat of a surprise to me, but politics is all about surprises, and I plan to surprise some people on January 3rd in Iowa.”

Barack Obama, John Edwards, and I actually agree on something

Well, what is it that we agree on you might ask. As Roger Simon says in his new article for The Politico, "Hillary Clinton does not say what she means or mean what she says." And that is exactly the message that both Barack Obama and John Edwards are going to start telling the American people. Let's be clear, I do not agree with either of these men politically but somebody needs to shed light on this glaring truth that the media all too often overlooks.

Hillary Clinton will do anything necessary to get and retain power. She does not make decisions based on what she truly feels is right. She makes her decisions based on what will help her and what is the politically expedient position to hold at the time. Her numerous positions that she has held about the war Iraq is just one example of this. She often is quite vague when she is asked questions and takes two minutes to "answer" a yes or no question. Of course, she never really gives an answer to the tough questions. She does not want to commit herself to positions because she knows her positions will change depending on what is popular at the time.

If Hillary Clinton inevitably wins the Democratic nomination she will move way to the middle even though she is 100% liberal at heart. Remember her senior thesis paper that she wrote that she desperately does not want the public to see? You know...the one about the tactics of Saul D. Alinsky, author of Reveille for Radicals. Apparently, you can read the whole thing online here. Some may argue that the thesis is meaningless because it was written about forty years ago. If that is true then why did she try to keep the public from seeing it? I only bring up her thesis to give you a glimpse of what her true views are probably like.

During last nights Democratic debate, Hillary finally got nailed with some scrutiny and by some questions that she could not seem to find any answers for. Watch these two clips from last night. Notice how she always tries to deflect the blame and pass it on to President Bush and how she never gives a straight answer...even to simple yes or no questions. I'm glad that Dodd, Edwards, Obama, and even Russert called her out on it.

Conservative Christian leaders to vote third party...maybe.

By now most of you have probably already heard James Dobson and others talk about the possibility of voting for a third-party candidate if the Republican nominee is not fully pro-choice.

I strongly disagree with this thinking. Voting third-party based on principle may cause some one to have warm fuzzies inside and make them feel better about themselves but in reality it is just hurting the causes that you believe in even more. The best way to get some results on abortion is with the Supreme Court. The next President of the United States will more than likely have to fill in one or two spots on the court. When it comes right down to it, would you rather have Hillary Clinton appointing people like Ruth Bader Ginsburg or would you rather have Rudy Giuliani appointing strict constructionist judges in the mold of Scalia, Thomas, Alito, and John Roberts?

The Anchoress has a blog post on this subject that really makes some great points about why it hurts our causes more voting for a third-party candidate (and ensuring a Hillary Clinton win) than it is to vote for a Republican candidate such as Rudy Giuliani. Instead of making the arguments against voting third-party, I'll just direct you to her article. In my opinion, she really hits the nail on the head so I highly recommend you read her article. President Bush Commutes 'Scooter' Libby's Prison Sentence

Yesterday afternoon, it was announced that President Bush has commuted Lewis 'Scooter' Libby's prison sentence. You can read the statement issued by President Bush on the issue here. Of course, it did not take long for people to start jeering this action. With that said, I happen to believe that President Bush did the right thing. Liberals, both politicians and those in the media, are outraged about this. I find it pretty amusing that they were not so outraged when President Clinton was pardoning people like his life depended on it on his last day in office.

Let's take a little look at President Clinton, shall we? Let's see...did Clinton serve any time for his act of perjury? He did not. And let's be clear here...no one is saying perjury is OK or excusing it...and that is why Libby was not pardoned. He is on probation for two years, has to pay a $250,000 fine, his reputation is smeared, and his career in public service is now over.

Libby's jail sentence of 2 1/2 years did not fit the crime. There are freaking rapists in this country that spend less time than that in jail. The fact is Libby did not commit the original charge that Fitzgerald was trying to pin on him. Valerie Plame's status seemed to be widely known and was originally leaked by Richard Armitage. That is where the investigation should have ended. However, Fitzgerald did not want to look like a fool so he kept the investigation going until he could at least find something. This whole thing was purely political and was a waste of the tax payer's money. And let me stress, this was not even a pardon. Bill Clinton pardoned over 140 people on his last day in office. Many of those people gave big bucks to his campaign...essentially he sold pardons (Marc Rich for example). Much of the people that Clinton pardoned were for much worse things than perjury. Besides that, look at the whole Sandy Berger ordeal. Nothing happened to him and he was stealing and trying to destroy national security documents (to protect Clinton). He was only fined $50,000 (much less than what Libby has to pay). Freaking unbelievable. What is weird to me is that I did not hear all of the loud voices on the left when Clinton was pardoning his cronies or when Berger had his 'legal trouble' which ended up with a slap on the wrist.

Yesterday, Schumer, Leahy, Reid, Edwards, Obama, Pelosi, and even Hillary Clinton have already cried foul over this commutation. Hillary had the nerve to say, "this commutation sends the clear signal that in this administration, cronyism and ideology trump competence and justice." Now, that is just rich coming from her.

Like I said before, while I do not excuse perjury, I think that President Bush did the right thing. I believe that Libby was the victim of a political witch hunt and I honestly believe that his punishment did not fit the crime. Still people are truly outraged. I have to ask, are people upset because the person 'getting off' (which I do not think Libby is really getting off...that is why he is not being pardoned) is a Republican with ties to President Bush or are people upset because Presidents have to right to pardon and commute sentences in the first place? I believe many are just upset because they wanted to see a Bush administration official in prison. However, since the President is given this power in Article II, Section 2 of the Constitution, they should not be angry when he exercises it. Now, when a President abuses the power, like Clinton did, I could understand the anger...but I do not think that the commutation of Libby's sentence is an abuse of this power. Most of this anger being shown is purely politics.

USA Wins Gold Cup, Continues Dominance Over Mexico

Yesterday, USA beat Mexico 2-1 in the finals of the CONCACAF Gold Cup. Even though the game was played in Chicago, there seemed to be a lot more Mexicans fans at the game. Like I have mentioned in a past post, that is just inexcusable to me. The US had to come from behind to take the win. The US tied the game up with a penalty kick from Landon Donovan. Then a little bit later the US took the lead for good with an awesome goal by Feilhaber. Overall, it was a great game and I was glad to see Team USA beat Mexico once again!

US Beats Mexico 2-0

Last night, the US mens national soccer team yet again beat their bitter rival, Mexico. This is interim coach Bob Bradley's second consecutive win since taking over the team. Jimmy Conrad headed in a goal off a corner kick and Landon Donovan sealed up the game with a breakaway goal at the end of the game. Since 2000, the United States has not lost to Mexico on US soil. On top of that, Mexico has not even scored a goal on US soil during that time. Last night's game was played in Glendale, Arizona in front of a sellout crowd...and "sellout" in more ways than one. The crowd of over 64,400 soccer fans was heavily in favor of Mexico. To me, that is just inexcuseable. However, the United States got the last laugh since they once again ended up with the win. After suffering another loss to the US, Mexico showed their usual lack of class by refusing to shake the Americans hands.

In an article in today's NY Times Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton sound off on their thoughts concerning Senator Joe Biden's remarks about Barack Obama. Comments like this are nothing new. Democrats have a history of saying racial things like this. However, since they are Democrats they usually are given a free pass from the media and from the minorities that they made the comments about.

When Republicans make comments like this, they are never just blown over or given a free pass. It gets talked and talked and talked about forever. Just think Trent Lott or George Allen. You get the point.

Can the Republicans win control of Congress? They can if they want to. It is up to the vaunted GOP base.

According to the Zogby poll, Republican fortunes, while improving in early October, have fallen since. On Sept. 22, Democrats led in the generic vote poll (Do you plan to vote for the Democratic or the Republican candidate in your district?) by nine points, 42-33. But by Oct. 11, their margin was only three - 37-34. But by Oct. 24 it was back up to 11 points - 44-33 - enough for the Democrats to take control of the House and probably the Senate.

But if you dig deep into the Zogby poll, you find an astonishing fact - independents are turning to the Republican Party while Republican base voters are leaving it! (Continued)

This year’s mid-term elections are going to be very important for all Americans. The outcome of November 7th could have devastating consequences for the country. My plea is to my fellow conservatives. Whatever you do, do not stay home on November 7th. The Republican party has not been perfect the last few years, but a Congress controlled by the Democrats would be terrible. I have heard some conservatives say that the Republicans do not deserve to be in power because they have not done anything for us. No matter how irritated you may be at the Republicans, staying home and not voting is not the way to go. Staying home would ultimately give the election to the Democrats. If you believe in conservative values then having the Democrats in power is not what you want.

If the Democrats took power, our new Speaker of the House would be Nancy Pelosi, a San Francisco liberal. The Democrats only need to pick up 15 seats for this to happen. Her record is atrocious. Let us look at some of her votes in the House of Representatives:

Voted NO on banning partial-birth abortions. (Apr 2000)
Voted NO on forbidding human cloning for reproduction & medical research. (Feb 2003)
Voted NO on making the PATRIOT Act permanent. (Dec 2005)
Voted NO on Constitutional Amendment banning same-sex marriage. (Sep 2004)
Voted NO on protecting the Pledge of Allegiance. (Sep 2004)
Voted NO on ending preferential treatment by race in college admissions. (May 1998)
Voted YES on prohibiting oil drilling & development in ANWR. (Aug 2001)
Voted NO on reducing Marriage Tax by $399B over 10 years. (Mar 2001)
Voted NO on eliminating the Estate Tax ("death tax"). (Apr 2001)
Voted NO on making the Bush tax cuts permanent. (Apr 2002)

These are just a few examples of how Nancy Pelosi votes. She is the last person we would want as the Speaker of the House. She is for anti-conservative values. She is extremely soft on the war on terror, soft on illegal immigration, for increasing taxes, for abortion on-demand, and the list goes on and on.

With Democrats controlling Congress, the next two years will be nothing but investigations about President Bush. President Bush will become a lame duck and will not be able to get any legislation passed. With the War on Terror, we need the President to be able to get things done and not have his hands tied behind his back because of the partisan hatred aimed at him. If Democrats take over the Congress, they will also control all of the House Committees. One example would be that Charlie Rangel, another extreme liberal, would be the chairperson of the Committee on Ways and Means. As head of the Ways and Means Committee, Rangel would have oversight over crucial issues that include economic policy, welfare, Social Security, etc.

The upcoming election could also affect the United States Senate. It is vital to preserve the Republican majority. To gain control of the Senate, the Democrats must win at least six of the close races. Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Virginia, Missouri, New Jersey, Washington, Maryland, Ohio, Montana, and Tennessee are all up for grabs. My home state of New Jersey has not had a Republican US Senator since 1979. It is time to change that, and it looks like Tom Kean Jr. has a good shot at making it happen.

I hope my fellow conservatives do not take this election lightly. Please, do not stay home on November 7th. If you care about conservative judges being appointed, the war on Terror, finishing the job in Iraq, protecting our borders, keeping our tax cuts permanent, and many other issues then you will not stay home and take the risk of having our Congress be run by Nancy Pelosi and other radical Democrats.

The media coverage of the killing of 24 Iraqis at Haditha has given rich new definition to the phrase "rush to judgment." The coverage, plus the reaction of antiwar politicians like Democratic representative John Murtha, amounts to a public verdict of guilty, rendered against a handful of Marines, before an investigation of the bloody incident is completed or a trial (if there is one) held.

An egregious example was MSNBC host Chris Matthews's interview with Murtha on May 17. Asked to "draw us a picture of what happened in Haditha," the congressman said he'd tell "exactly" what occurred. "One Marine was killed and the Marines just said we're going to take care. They don't know who the enemy is. The pressure was too much on them, so they went into houses and they actually killed civilians."

"Was this My Lai?" Matthews interjected, referring to the slaughter of more than 300 civilians by American soldiers in Vietnam in 1968. "Was this a case of--when you say cold blood, Congressman, a lot of people think you're basically saying you have got some civilians sitting in a room [or] out in a field and they're executed."

"That's exactly what happened," Murtha replied.

Murtha, of course, doesn't really know if the Haditha civilians were killed in cold blood. There's no way he could know. He's been briefed by Marine Commandant Michael Hagee, but so have other key members of Congress. Republican Duncan Hunter, the chairman of the House Armed Services Committee, talked to Hagee and did not conclude either

that the case was all but closed or that 24 Iraqis had indeed been executed. Murtha, an ex-Marine, claims to have other Marine sources, but it's doubtful any of them were in Haditha on November 19, 2005, the day of the killings. So Murtha is winging it--and in a particularly shameful way...(Continued)

There's still hope at the World Cup for Team USA

I know that many Americans do not get excited about soccer, but I love it. The World Cup started last week. The United States is ranked #5 in the world and this was supposed to be their best team ever. However, the United States got put into the toughest group with #2 Czech Republic, #12 Italy, and #48 Ghana(Group E). In their first game, the United States got spanked by the Czech Republic 3-0. Yet, there is still good news for Team USA. Today the US played Italy, who was heavily favored. The end result was a 1-1 tie. The referees were terrible making many questionable calls. Two of those calls resulted in red cards for the US. That meant that those players were ejected and the US had to play down two men for the rest of the game. The fact that they tied Italy, being down two men, is amazing. There is still hope that Team USA will make it to the next round. The US needs to beat Ghana this week and have Italy beat the Czech Republic. If that happens they'll be on their way to the next round of the World Cup.

A sergeant who led a squad of Marines during the incident in Haditha, Iraq, that left as many as 24 civilians dead said his unit did not intentionally target any civilians, followed military rules of engagement and never tried to cover up the shootings, his attorney said.

Staff Sgt. Frank D. Wuterich, 26, told his attorney that several civilians were killed Nov. 19 when his squad went after insurgents who were firing at them from inside a house. The Marine said there was no vengeful massacre, but he described a house-to-house hunt that went tragically awry in the middle of a chaotic battlefield.

"It will forever be his position that everything they did that day was following their rules of engagement and to protect the lives of Marines," said Neal A. Puckett, who represents Wuterich in the ongoing investigations into the incident. "He's really upset that people believe that he and his Marines are even capable of intentionally killing innocent civilians."

Wuterich's detailed version of what happened in the Haditha neighborhood is the first public account from a Marine who was on the ground when the shootings occurred. As the leader of 1st Squad, 3rd Platoon, Kilo Company, 3rd Battalion, 1st Marine Regiment, Wuterich was in the convoy of Humvees that was hit by a roadside bomb. Cold blood is a "hot" topic. For pontificating politicians and the potentates of the press it invariably trumps good news. Even the violent demise of terror-mastermind Abu Musab al-Zarqawi wasn't enough to push the bad news off the front page for long. At 7:30 a.m. EST on June 8, the masters of American media paused their drumbeat of negativity from the Global War on Terror just long enough to announce that U.S. Special Operations Forces had killed Zarqawi. The barons of bombast allowed President George W. Bush a few minutes of air-time to commend our troops and note that they had administered "a severe blow to Al Qaeda." Then it was business as usual, bashing the administration, trashing our troops, and making sure that the words "Haditha" and "atrocity" are firmly branded in the minds of everyone with access to American media.

Here's a "self-test" to prove how well this "branding" works. Clip or print this article. Put it in a pocket and a week from now, whip it out and ask a "representative sample" of your family, friends and associates two questions: "What happened at Bakuba?" And then, "What happened at Haditha?" Tabulate the results. Prediction: Eight of ten will be able to tell you something about "Marines accused of killing civilians" in Haditha. Fewer than three in ten will know anything about Bakuba -- and only a few will even know that it's in Iraq...(Continued)

The Pentagon has concluded its investigation into the March 15 deaths of 13 Iraqis in the town of Ishaqi. It found that American soldiers acted within the rules of combat when they fired on a house after first being fired upon by a suspected al-Qaida operative. The investigation of a Nov. 19 incident in Haditha in which 24 Iraqi civilians were killed continues, though some people have already rushed to judgment and convicted a group of U.S. Marines.

Some news reports about the Ishaqi incident noted that U.S. military commanders believed the Iraqi police report was part of an attempt to discredit American troops and foment resentment among locals.

That view and the related strategy to undermine support for the war at home receives strong support from Amir Taheri, former executive editor of Kayhan, Iran's largest newspaper. Writing in the June issue of Commentary magazine, Taheri contends Americans are being presented with a false picture of conditions in Iraq. Noting the difficulty of covering Iraq adequately, Taheri writes, "many of the newsmen, pundits, and commentators on whom American viewers and readers relyto describe the situation have been contaminated by the increasing bitterness of American politics. Clearly there are those in the media and the think tanks who wish the Iraq enterprise to end in tragedy, as a just comeuppance for George W. Bush."

For the anti-war left, hatred of the president is the filter through which all information flows. It has created a "conventional wisdom" that nothing good is happening in Iraq and even if it is, inevitable defeat awaits the United States when it must ultimately withdraw, leaving chaos behind.

"Current reality," writes Taheri, "is very different, and so are the

John Murtha: From Hero to Traitor

They say, once you're a Marine, you're always a Marine, but when it comes to Rep. John Murtha, I'm not so sure that he still deserves to be called one. Let me be clear; I respect his past service to our country and am grateful for it. John Murtha joined the United States Marine Corps in 1952, during the Korean War. He proudly volunteered to serve in Vietnam. During his time in the Marines, he earned the American Spirit Honor Medal, the Bronze Star with Combat "V" for valor in combat, two Purple Hearts, the Vietnamese Cross of Gallantry, and the Navy Distinguished Service Medal (Wikipedia). With that said, his past service and bravery do not excuse his recent behavior.

So, what happened to cause this war hero to go so wrong? What made this man who proudly served his country turn his back on his brothers in the Corps? Marines never leave a man behind, but John Murtha is doing more than just leaving a man behind. He has accused Marines of murdering innocent civilians in cold blood in Haditha, Iraq without providing any evidence. I thought that in America, we are innocent until proven guilty, but John Murtha would rather accuse our Marines of murder instead of waiting for the facts in the matter. John Murtha has betrayed his fellow Marines and because of this, he is a disgrace.

The truth is that it may or may not be true that Marines in Iraq intentionally killed civilians. Any civilian death is truly sad and regrettable, but it is a heartbreaking fact of war that there is collateral damage. We no longer carpet-bomb countries like in wars of the past. We spend millions of dollars on smart bombs so that we tactfully hit our targets. With all of that, there are still regrettably sometimes civilian deaths in war. The reality is that our country is not fighting a regular war. We are fighting people who do not care about the loss of innocent lives. They wear no uniform, and don't use the weapons of a typical army. Our troops are not fighting soldiers, but instead are fighting terrorists. Our soldiers are dealing with an enemy that uses suicide bombings and IED's as their weapons.

John Murtha has shown a total disregard for his fellow Marines that are in harm's way and serving our country. He doesn't care that his words may be lowering the morale of our proud men and women who are overseas. Why would this ex-Marine want to damn these men before the investigation is through? Our soldiers have a tough enough job without extra nonsense to deal with. Our service men and women are sacrificing time away from friends and family, and some have even paid the ultimate sacrifice so that America can stay safe.

The media will, no doubt, take Murtha's comments and run with them. Some are already comparing what may or may not have even happened in Haditha to the My Lai Massacre in Vietnam. I refuse to let our service men and women be treated the way they were during the Vietnam War. If these men really did commit premeditated murder to innocent civilians, they will surely be brought to justice. However, until this matter has been fully investigated and all of the facts have been found, we should hold off on accusing our service members of murder. Their job is difficult enough without these accusations. It is irresponsible for Murtha to make these claims while investigations are still ongoing.

Let's all just take a deep breath and wait for the facts to come out on the issue before making any more accusations. Most importantly, let's continue to let out troops know that we still support them, stand behind them, and that we are on their side.

Last night, as I was lying in bed, I was watching t.v. and flipping through the channels. As I was flipping through, I happened to find this documentary playing on TBN. It is called, In the Face of Evil: Reagan’s War in Word and Deed. I have heard about it before and have been meaning to see it. It is about Ronald Reagan and his fight against Communism. It is absolutely awesome! It goes through the history of Communism and the Soviet Union. It also goes into Reagan's past from a B movie actor, to Governor of California, to President of the United States. It shows how our policy of detente was not working for the United States and how it let the Soviet Union grow stronger by taking advantage of our pacts with them. Presidents like Kennedy, Johnson, and Nixon talked tough about Communism, but once they were in office they ended up doing very little to end it. Ronald Reagan ran for President on bringing an end to Communism. When he was elected he did not go back on his word. He knew that Communism was the greatest threat of the time. Reagan grew our defense and made decisions that were not always popular. Even though, his decisions were not always the most popular, he did what was right. It is because of him that the Soviet Union no longer exists. This movie was a great way for me to finish President's Day. I recommend that everyone sees this movie. I think I am even going to buy it. Senate Confirms Alito

Congratulations, Justice Samuel Alito! Today, Samuel Alito of my home state, New Jersey, became the 110th United States Supreme Court Justice. The vote came to 58 for and 42 against Alito. All Republicans, except for RINO Lincoln Chafee of Rhode Island, voted for the confirmation of Alito. All but four Democrats voted against Alito. I would like to single out those Democrats who broke ranks with their party to support the confirmation of some one who is obviously qualified for the job. Those Democrats are Sen. Byrd of West Virginia, Sen. Conrad of North Dakota, Sen. Johnson of South Dakota, and Sen. Ben Nelson of Nebraska. The way that Republican Supreme Court nominees have been treated is despicable. Many of the Democrats opposed Roberts and Alito just because they did not agree with their political views. Their job is not to pick apart their views but to figure out if the appointees are qualified for the Supreme Court. Republicans know that the winner of Presidential elections get to choose the nominees. That is why when President Clinton chose Ruth Bader Ginsburg, a former ACLU worker, she was confirmed by the Senate by a 97-3 vote. It is no question that many people disagreed with her politics, but she was still qualified for the job. Republicans know that when a Democrat wins the Presidency they are going to pick a more liberal judge and when a Republican wins the Presidency they are going to pick a more conservative judge. I do not understand why the Democrats can't accept that. But anyways, today was a victory for the conservatives of the country. This was one of the reasons we voted for President Bush and he did not let us down. Let's hope that Justices Alito and Roberts stay true to their conservative judicial thought like Justices Scalia and Thomas have. -JW-

High Voter Turnout for Iraqi Elections

Today the Iraqis went to the polls to elect their first ever full-term parliament since the ousting of Saddam Hussein. The turnout has been very high and many polling stations have decided to stay open later for the people still waiting in lines. There has been an increase in security, curfews, etc. The Sunnis, who have boycotted past elections, have taken part in today's election, which is very good news. There has been scattered violence through out the day but it doesn't appear to be keeping people from voting. This is a huge step for the Iraqis. They have went from living under a brutal dictator to having their own democratically-elected government. And just think, the Democrats in Congress would like for us to cut and run and turn our backs on the Iraqi people. I think it is clear that we can't turn our backs on these brave men and women who vote in the midst of threats of terrorist attacks, just for a chance to live in a democracy. Personally, I think that we take for granted the fact that we are blessed to live in a democracy and enjoy so much freedom. We could learn a lot from the Iraqi people.

The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe

I have really been looking forward to seeing it. Of course, I had to see it on opening day. So last night, I went and saw The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe. It was excellent! I was not disappointed in any way. It stayed true to the original book by C.S. Lewis. This is a movie that all will enjoy, even if you have never read the book before. I hope that in the future Disney decides to make more movies from the other books from The Chronicles of Narnia. I definitely recommend that every one go out and see this movie.
